I have some news. All of the program timelines look fantastic. Thank you Shannon, Carlyn, Jannelle, and Laura. Unfortunately, we will not be able to hand them out at the mentee/mentor social. The documents will need to be approved by the emphases chairs. This is why. These documents not only represent CSI but also the department so they have to be right. My understanding is that Kelli has approved the school document; however, neither Tom nor Alan have seen the other two. My sense is that we should wait to publish the documents until we have them all together.
I also wanted to put a process comment out there. I have noticed as we have all worked together this year that we tend to jump the gun a bit at times and create more work for ourselves and for others by not checking in or letting our nerves get in the way of our actions. This is hard on all of us. For example, going into the classrooms for the meeting times and not know about the rsvps for the m/m program. I think continuing to work on our communication will help with this so keep posting to the blog...Perhaps we need to set up some structure around programs and posting. Let me know what you all think. Talk to you later.
R.
Thanks for your feedback Renae and I will just follow up with saying-that if anyone senses we are doing to many steps or forgetting anything that we let eachother know ASAP to alleviate any extra work that we may be doing. I believe this is why it is important to stay caught up with our communication efforts! :)
ReplyDeleteIt was my understanding after leaving the Renae's house in our last exec meeting that we are to leave the faculty alone in regards to CSI. I believe it was mentioned that the faculty certainly support CSI, but have busy schedules and prioritize other things above CSI. I understand the importance of having the faculty review our emphasis information; yet, I also feel this contradicts what I took from the previous exec meeting. Again, I feel communication is still an issue.
ReplyDeleteKelli was able to review Shannon and Carlyn's material because their timeline was originally a project for their course; not for CSI. In conversations with other members, somehow CSI took on the timeline idea from what Shannon and Carlyn were already working on outside of CSI.
I feel that if I was told to have Tom review my Community Emphasis information at an earlier date, the packets could have been distributed for our social; again, another communication issue. Perhaps I can share more of my thoughts and feelings at our up-coming exec meeting.
Take care everyone.
I agree with you, Laura. I could have had my emphasis sheet ready for the mentor/mentee social if I would have known this in advance. Also, when I presented in Career class about the CSI meeting times and the mentor/mentee social, a student wanted to receive another email with the mentee sign-up sheet. I could not provide this sheet and redirected the question. I do not think this is a communication issue, but instead a simple resource issue.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know how to post our emphasis sheets on the blog?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
