Child Abuse Speaker

Hi ladies-
Just wanted to let you all know that I contacted Scott about speaking(Child Abuse). He is available any Wednesday in March except for the week of our spring break so that works out perfect. I suggest we do it the first week of March. The 2nd week is Big Brother big sister, 3rd week is right before spring break and the last week is right b4 our April meeting. The other way we could do this is to move back our April meeting to April 12th- and have it the last week.

Please comment with your thoughts and suggestions. Thanks Ladies :) Jessy

*We will also need to talk with Kelli- about combining this with her class once we figure out a date.

Jessy's Newsletter Article

Welcome back everyone from a well needed and deserved break. I hope that you find yourself ready to begin the 2nd semester with a renewed sense of energy and focus. As a way to welcome you all back I would like to personally invite you to our first CSI meeting of the spring semester. Many of you new students are now eligible and can begin to be active, voting, members at our meetings. Our first meeting will be on February 16th @ 4:30 in Clow 9.

This semester we will present a variety of opportunities for you to get involved at many different levels. In February we will be having our Mentor/Mentee kickoff social@ Fratello’s which will be a great way to connect with others in the program. March will bring a chance for you to grow professionally by attending our speaker on Child Abuse. March will also present an occasion for you to give back to the community and have some fun doing it at Bowling for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Lastly, April will offer a chance for leadership as we say goodbye to the current CSI Executive board and welcome the new board and members at our Induction ceremony.

TAKE ACTION: get involved and share your talents, abilities, and ideas with your fellow classmates and colleagues. YOU have so much to offer. I get excited just thinking about it.
I look forward to seeing you at a meeting or event this semester. J Jessy

Presentation Rough Draft

Ladies, just wanted to send this rough draft out before proposing it to the professors. From the doodle I just picked one person responsible for having the flyers to hand out. I know that there are more of you in each class- feel free to still present and promote CSI.

There are no people signed up for group on the 1st however, I believe all of these students should be reached in other classes- theory, assessment, etc. Any questions-concerns please email me back. The flyers will be in the Office. The person assigned to each class will be resposible for taking enough flyers for their class.> > >

* I will send out a final version as soon as I hear from all of you. Thanks everyone for volunteering to spread CSI cheer! :)

Mentoring Program Information

Mentor Information

Hello Mentors,

Thank you for wanting to help give back to fellow students in their first year in the program! Kelly and I wanted to send you out a notice as promised about what would be entailed within the mentoring program. We believe that it will be important for all of you to make this experience what you want it to be. We would however ask that you meet or talk with your mentee on the phone or in person at LEAST once a month. If you would like to spend more time with them that is fine and up to your personal discretion.

What can you expect when meeting with your mentee?

Many of the Mentees have questions about classes, faculty, practicum, and internship expectations and experiences. They may also want to just get connected with a friend in their area. The fallowing responses are what the mentees indicated in their desire to be in the mentoring program:

· Advice, guidance, relative experience

· Someone to help me when I am unclear. What to do as far as school goes.

· Networking, Info/Advice with classes, time management, etc…

· direction, feedback

· Knowledge about classes, organizations, personal experiences while in the program

· Information/advice about the community counseling program.

· Internships?

· Resource, provide info about the program

· Answer questions I might have, help on certain classes

· Someone to talk to

· Someone to give guidance or answer questions through emailing, phone calls, or meetings

· Networking for internship etc, Advice how to manage time, Just someone to talk about things when they occur. Anything!

· Someone to answer questions about program classes, etc.

· Encouragement and wisdom (recommendations for future, advice for classes, etc…

· I'd like to get to know someone from the school emphasis-possibly meet once now that I have more questions, then email back and forth when more questions come up.

· Have someone to go to for any questions I might have

· To be able to get perspectives on what to take for classes and how to balance and get experience and they were like???

· Someone to go to if I have questions/concerns. Someone I can talk to about my personal journey through the program

· Getting insight on classes, applications, when to do what the ins and outs of the program, etc. Someone to ask questions
